Balik Kampung with Switzerland:
A Holistic Journey in Sustainable Living and Building

Saturday 9 May I 8:45 am – 1 pm
Step into a living example of sustainability in action at Kampung Kampus in Yishun, a unique community space where nature, people, and design come together.

This immersive half-day experience invites participants to explore sustainability not just as a concept, but as a connected ecosystem, spanning how we build, grow, gather, make, and care for place. Through a guided journey across the site, participants will discover how farming, composting, upcycling, making, and community life are deeply interconnected. From working with the land to engaging in hands-on activities, the programme offers a grounded and tangible look at holistic sustainability in practice.

Participants will move through different parts of Kampung Kampus, engaging directly with its spaces and practices, from urban farming and circular resource use to woodworking and collaborative making. Along the way, the +Pavilion is integrated into the journey as one example of adaptive reuse, circular design, and sustainable placemaking within this wider ecosystem. Originally developed as a collaborative Swiss-led installation and exhibition on sustainable design and the built environment, the pavilion has evolved across locations and was most recently relocated to Kampung Kampus in 2025.

The morning concludes with a shared community lunch, offering time to connect, exchange ideas, and reflect on the experience in an informal setting.
