Swiss Film Late Shift at the EUFF 2026

THURSDAY 14 May 2026 I 8 PM
The Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore is proud to participate in the 35th European Film Festival (EUFF). As part of the festival programme and in conjunction with the Swiss Weeks, the Embassy presents the Swiss-German drama Late Shift (Die Heldin).

Brilliant. Gripping. Intense. This multiple award-winning film has received rave reviews from critics around the world. Late Shift directed by Petra Volpe, is a 2025 Swiss-German drama that offers a raw, documentary-style look into a hectic, understaffed Swiss hospital ward. Starring Leonie Benesch as nurse Floria, the film critically examines the systemic emotional labour of the job and the physical toll of caregiving. Writer and director Volpe addresses a pressing global issue: the acute shortage of qualified nursing staff and how intense a shift can be. According to the World Health Organization, the world could face a shortfall of approximately 13 million nurses by 2030.

The film has received international recognition, including an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film and a Best Actress nomination for Leonie Benesch at the 38th European Film Awards. Most recently, Late Shift was chosen as Best Feature of the Year at the 2026 Swiss Film Awards, winning a total of four awards including Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and the first-ever “Box Office Quartz” award for the film with the highest box office (207,000 cinema admissions).
